Meet River, a sweet male Doberman seeking a calm, patient home where he can continue building confidence. River is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, so his activity is limited, but he still enjoys a quick frolic outside. Right now, a 3o minute walk followed by lots of relaxation time with him people is sufficient, but this may change over the course of his treatment! River does well with other dogs and is calm, friendly, and affectionate in both home and outdoor settings.
While his experience with male dogs is somewhat limited, he has shown he can learn quickly with appropriate guidance. He would likely do well in a home with other dogs. River is crate-trained and settles well when left alone, especially with a treat or enrichment toy. He walks well on leash, rides comfortably in the car, and knows “sit,” with a good foundation for continued training. He can be reserved, particularly around unfamiliar men, and will need slow, structured introductions to new people. With time and consistency, he is able to build trust. River's a sensitive guy, so he will require gentle correction and experienced Doberman owners who are prepared to continue his training and confidence building.
River still has some puppy in him and will chew or try to eat household items, so supervision and continued training will be important. River has shown mild, infrequent resource guarding directed at other dogs, but this is easily manageable with proper awareness and gentle correction. Overall, River is a loyal and affectionate dog who will thrive in a structured, understanding home. His ideal home is quiet and low-traffic, with experienced dog owners ready to provide a supportive, consistent environment as he continues to grow into a confident companion.
