Kane is a intelligent, driven 2-year-old male Doberman. He needs an active, structured, experienced home that's prepared and excited to give him a job - whether that’s scent work, tracking, sport training, or another structured outlet for his brain and body. He’s the kind of dog who wants to work with his person, not sit on the couch or simply go on walks in the neighborhood.
Kane is currently in the middle of a full behavioral and medical evaluation, so we’re still getting to know all of his strengths and needs. What we do know is this - Kane is a very independent Dobe who thrives on staying busy. His high-energy, driven nature means that traditional exercise and mental stimulation will not be enough to keep him fulfilled. Kane would do best as an only dog and, in true Dobe fashion, also has a high prey drive so he will not be a fit for homes with small pets.
Kane will not do well as -just- a family pet, and he will require an engaged, active adopter with plenty of Doberman breed experience, preferably someone with training and/or sport experience. Kane's ideal adopter should be prepared to channel his energy into something productive and fulfilling, give fair corrections when needed, and continue the training he’s worked so hard on. If you’re looking for a dog to be your project partner, training buddy, or sport prospect — and not just a couch ornament — Kane might be your guy.
-- A Special Note about Kane --
Kane will not be placed as just a household pet. He is not your typical “Velcro” Doberman and will ONLY be considered for placement in a single-dog home with no small children. Kane requires a highly experienced adopter who is both capable of and fully committed to working him. His high energy level and independent temperament contributed to his surrender to DDR, and these traits will need to be intentionally managed in his next home.
Because of Kane’s significant placement requirements, we will be extremely selective in choosing an adopter. Placement will be based strictly on demonstrated experience, appropriate environment, and the ability to meet Kane’s needs.
